Regular sweeping by a qualified chimney sweep will prevent the dangerous build-up of Creosote, Soot and Tar which can cause blockages in your flue. These substances can affect the efficiency of your appliance, be the cause of a chimney fire or allow dangerous gasses such as Carbon Monoxide to escape into your home.
In order to maintain the warranty on both your stove and chimney system as well as keeping your home insurance valid, you will be required to ensure your chimney is swept at least once a year, depending upon the appliance and fuel being used. Both HETAS and APICS advise that the sweep you choose is HETAS Registered or an APICS member.
